Ford Edge Dashboard Lights Delaware, OH

Your Ford Edge is smart. It offers a lot of active and passive safety features to help you stay safely on the roads of Delaware, Marion, and Sunbury. It also has internal sensors to help it keep track of the things you can’t see while you’re driving: engine temperature, oil pressure, tire pressure, and more.

The Edge communicates with you about these essential systems using a series of dashboard lights. Byers Ford understands that sometimes decoding the Ford Edge dashboard lights may feel like you’re trying to read hieroglyphs.

Dashboard lights fall into a few different categories, with warning lights being the most alarming. That’s why we’ve put together this guide to help familiarize you with some of the more common Ford Edge warning lights.

What does that flashing red symbol mean? What do you need to do about it? Read on to find out.

Battery

What it is: A light that looks like a car battery indicates something’s wrong with-you guessed it-your car’s battery.

What to do: Turn off anything that may be drawing electrical power from it, such as your vehicle’s radio, air conditioner, or phone charger. This can help you reach a safe destination before your SUV runs out of juice. Be aware, however, that you may not be able to restart your vehicle until the issue is resolved.

Brake System

What it is: There’s a lot going on with this light. You’ll see the word BRAKE under both a circled exclamation point and a circled P.

What to do: First, check to make sure your parking brake is not engaged, as that’s the most common reason for this light to turn on. If the light remains on, there’s an issue with your brake system. Don’t drive your vehicle without first getting it checked out by a service technician.

Electric Parking Brake

What it is: Related to the above light, if there’s an issue with your electric parking brake, you’ll see a zigzagging arrow inside a circle.

What to do: There’s nothing immediate you need to do, but you should schedule an appointment with a qualified technician as soon as possible.

Low Tire Pressure Warning

What it is: This light shows an exclamation point inside something that looks like a horseshoe, but this is actually an interpretation of what your tire looks like when it’s low on air.

What to do: If this light stays on while you’re driving, check the air pressure in your tires as soon as possible. If the light starts flashing, schedule an appointment to have your tire pressure monitoring system checked.

Powertrain Fault

What it is: See a light that simply looks like a wrench? This indicates there’s something wrong with your vehicle’s powertrain. It could be anything from a bad sensor to low transmission fluid, old spark plugs, or a slew of other things.

What to do: Your area service provider has the tools to determine what’s causing this light to appear. Contact them as soon as possible to have your vehicle checked.
