Ford EcoSport Dashboard Lights
You’re traveling along the roads of Delaware, Marion, and Sunbury, OH, and just crossed another Sunday errand off your weekly to-do list. However, when you turn the last corner before reaching home, you notice that the dashboard has an unfamiliar warning symbol.
To help prepare you for when this occurs, we at Byers Ford put this guide together explaining what the Ford EcoSport’s dashboard lights signify. It’s important to know the meaning behind these lights and indicators to react accordingly and avoid unsafe driving conditions.
Indicator and Warning Lights
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
The MIL, also known as the check engine light, indicates a nonspecific fault within the engine and usually needs diagnostic technology to read an error code. Some of these errors can be found in the emissions control system and engine cylinder. Head over to your authorized Ford dealer to have your EcoSport inspected.
Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Warning Lamp
When a parenthesized ABS pops up on the EcoSport’s dashboard, it signifies that your anti-lock brake system has a malfunction. Although your vehicle may have minimal or no ABS braking capability, normal braking will still function properly. You should have your vehicle checked out by your authorized Ford dealer promptly.
Battery System Warning Light
A red battery will appear on the dashboard to let you know that your battery system is working improperly or not at all. It’s recommended that you stop driving and turn off all unnecessary electrical equipment. If this warning continues to illuminate the dash, you’ll want to have your EcoSport looked at by an authorized Ford dealer.
Engine Oil Warning
When a red oil can remains on the dashboard after you flip the ignition, it means one of two things: low oil pressure or a system malfunction. It’s recommended that you pull over when it’s safe and check your engine oil. If the level is correct, this generally signifies an error in the system.
You will want to have your EcoSport inspected by an authorized Ford dealer promptly to avoid costly repairs.
Engine Coolant Temperature Warning Light
If a symbol representative of a thermometer in water illuminates the EcoSport’s dashboard while on the road, it indicates low or overheated engine coolant. When it’s safe to do so, pull over and check your oil coolant level after turning off the car and waiting 10 minutes. Replenish the coolant if necessary and run the engine.
If you don’t have any extra coolant to refill the reservoir or the light remains on, have your EcoSport inspected at your authorized Ford dealer.
Low Tire Pressure Warning Lamp
If you see a horseshoe-like symbol with an exclamation point sitting in the middle, one or more of your EcoSport’s tires has less than the recommended amount of air pressure. We suggest inspecting your tires for leaks and filling any that are running low. Schedule a service appointment if the warning stays on after adding air.
Stability Control and Traction Control Indicator
This symbol looks like a car driving on a winding path. After the system is activated, it will flash during operation and remain solid with the word off when it is switched off. There are two ways to tell if there is a malfunction-if it doesn’t illuminate when you flip the ignition and if it remains solid with no off while driving.
It’s suggested that you contact your authorized Ford dealer to have your EcoSport inspected.
