While you’re out on the road, the F-150 saves fuel, with the included Auto Start-Stop Technology. This tech works by turning off the engine when you come to a complete stop. Instead of idling and wasting fuel, you’ll conserve what you have left. When it’s time to rejoin moving traffic, you just need to release the brake and the engine will automatically restart. In trucks, this tech deactivates when not called for in various circumstances, whether you’re towing a trailer or in 4-wheel drive.
If you’re looking for more power options, then you’re in luck! The F-150 offers four additional available engine options. First, there is the 2.7L EcoBoost® V6 that delivers 325 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. Following that is the 3.5L EcoBoost® V6, with a 10-speed transmission, that generates 400 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque.
The 5.0L Ti-VCT V8, with a 10-speed transmission, delivers 400 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. Finally, the powerhouse 3.5L PowerBoost™ Full Hybrid V6 comes through with 430 horsepower, 570 lb-ft of torque, and a maximum towing capacity of 12,700 pounds when properly equipped.
The F-150 comes in either 4×2 or 4×4 and offers versatile features, such as the Electronic-Shift-On-the-Fly (ESOF) with Neutral Towing Capability. While only available on 4×4 models, the effect is of having the best of both worlds. ESOF allows you, with the flick of a dial, to choose from two different 4-wheel-drive modes (4×4 low or high) as well as 2-wheel drive.
The 4×2 comes with six available selectable drive modes. They are Normal, ECO, Sport, Tow/Haul, Slippery, and Trail. These modes give you a number of options as to how you’ll tackle the road that day as well as being aligned with your own particular driving style.
For the 4×4 drive, however, there are two alternate modes, due to the power that a 4×4 drive can sustain. These include four of the previously mentioned modes of the 4×2 drive, with Slippery and Trail being replaced with Deep Snow/Sand and Mud. These last two have been designed with the idea in mind that you’ll be taking your 4×4 model out on more challenging terrain.
