Powertrain

The Ford Escape lets you pick the powertrain that's right for you by giving you a choice between three different engines:

  • 2.5L I4: 168 horsepower, 170 lb-ft of torque
  • 1.5L EcoBoost® I4: 179 horsepower, 177 lb-ft of torque
  • 2.0L EcoBoost® I4: 245 horsepower, 275 lb-ft of torque

While all three engines come with a smooth-shifting 6-speed SelectShift® automatic transmission, the 2.5L engine is only available with the lightweight front-wheel drive (FWD) system.

The two EcoBoost® engines give you a choice between FWD and Intelligent All-Wheel Drive (AWD). Intelligent AWD uses smart sensors to detect wheel slippage. It makes adjustments multiple times every second to redistribute torque between all four wheels as necessary to help you keep a firm grip on the road.

Smart Safety Features

The Ford Escape makes a variety of Ford Co-Pilot360™ technologies available as part of the Ford Safe and Smart™ Package. These driver-assist systems are designed to enhance driver safety by improving your awareness of the conditions around you.

The 2019 Escape makes the following smart safety features available:

  • BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System)
  • Auto high-beam headlamps
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Forward Collision Warning with Brake Support

It also has available Enhanced Active Park Assist, which can make it even more convenient to dock once you've reached your destination.

This system can help you identify an available parallel or perpendicular parking space. Once identified, it'll provide steering assist while also prompting you to accelerate, brake, and shift.

Dimensions

The Ford Escape is a compact SUV, but it has all the space you need on the inside for a great outing. In total, it can accommodate five passengers with a passenger volume of 98.7 cubic feet. This includes the following:

  • Headroom (front/rear): 39.9/39 inches
  • Legroom (front/rear): 43.1/37.3 inches

If you're bringing the whole family along for the fun, you'll still have 34 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row for all your gear. Need even more space? Fold down the rear seats and access the full cargo volume of 68 cubic feet. That's enough space for a couple bikes, several hockey bags, or a piece of furniture.

With the available hands-free foot-activated liftgate, loading up the cargo area is convenient, even with your hands full.

For example, if you're holding your toddler after a trip to the grocery store, you don't have to put him down to open the hatch. Simply wave your foot under the rear bumper while the key fob is in your pocket and it'll open automatically.
